LIONEL SAVAGE is President of Lionheart Consulting Group, which provides advisory services across all industries to help companies drive institutional change, build leadership capacity, mitigate franchise and reputation risk with a particular focus on strategic planning, diversity programs, and corporate social responsibility.
For 30 years, Lionel has been a leader and key contributor in the financial services arena, serving in executive positions at First American Financial Corporation and Fannie Mae. As a preeminent bridge and partnership builder, Lionel has built numerous strategic alliances with leading institutions, including the Federal Reserve, FDIC, Freddie Mac, Ginnie Mae, HUD, Microsoft, State Farm, Chase, Citi, Washington Mutual, National City, Countrywide, NAHB, MBA, the Housing Policy Council, ALTA, and scores of non-profit organizations.
In 2014, Lionel founded Lionheart Leadership and serves as its Executive Director, a non-profit dedicated to the development of young African American college students who will serve as the next generation of business and community leaders. Throughout his career Lionel has personified a give-back mindset, helping to change countless lives in the areas of affordable housing, home ownership, economic empowerment, and leadership training.
At First American, Lionel served as Vice President of Industry Relations and Market Development, responsible for the development, implementation and management of government and industry relations strategies, and formalizing corporate relationships with more than 25 organizations, including leading consumer advocacy groups. He built key alliances with social justice and civil rights organizations, including The Greenlining Institute, National Asian American Coalition, National Urban League, as well as minority trade associations such as NAREB, NAHREP, and AREAA.
Lionel managed First American’s relationships with major industry trade associations, facilitated CEO engagement with federal agency heads, and was the executive responsible for overall assessment of franchise risk and advising senior management on industry, regulatory and consumer impact.
Lionel also served as President of the First American Community Fund, leading its philanthropic, community investment and employee volunteerism program. And he led its supplier diversity program and was responsible for regulatory and customer reporting, developing a corporate supplier diversity strategy and increasing the company’s diversity spend.
At Fannie Mae, Lionel’s 15-year tenure resulted in several notable accomplishments across several business lines to include technology, marketing, operations consulting and customer management.
Lionel’s executive-level contributions have also benefited non-profit organizations to include board chairmanships at Social Compact, Archie Mae, Operation HOPE Mid-Atlantic, National Asian American Coalition (vice chair), National Hispanic Real Estate Professionals, Council of Inclusion in Financial Services (board member), and From the Heart Church Ministries Board of Trustees.
